The social inclusion of young people is strongly linked to the implementation of their human rights – The review of second term of the Human Rights Centre’s Young Experts Programme has now been published in English
2.7.2026

How are human rights implemented for young people in Finland? What does social inclusion of young people mean from the perspective of human rights? These questions are examined in the review of the second programme term of the Human Rights Centre’s (HRC) Young Experts Programme. The review has now also been published in English.
During the second term of the HRC’s Young Experts Programme (2023–2025), the HRC monitored societal development and its impacts on the implementation of young people’s rights in Finland. In addition, the HRC met young people from different backgrounds in several events and meetings during the period. The recent review highlights observations of the challenges faced by young people in accessing their rights.
Discussions with young people brought up concerns related to equality, mental health and future prospects, which are directly linked to the implementation of young people’s fundamental and human rights. The review discusses these challenges and considers how a human rights-based examination helps to identify obstacles to young people’s participation in society.
The rapid decline in young people’s faith in the future has recently raised concerns and sparked debate in society. The HRC hopes that the publication will offer a human rights perspective on the discussion on young people’s inclusion and faith in the future.
In 2022, the HRC established the Young Experts Programme, the aim of which is to strengthen the perspective of young people in the Finnish human rights debate and to promote the implementation of the fundamental and human rights of young people as part of the HRC’s activities. The programme is designed for two recent graduates who want to learn more about the field and deepen their expertise in human rights. The programme term is two years.
